Some clinic visits are just hard.
Your child cries. You feel embarrassed. You try everything. Nothing works.
Please know this: that does not mean you are a bad parent.
Children cry in medical settings for many reasons
Fear. Tiredness. Hunger. Too many new faces. Too much waiting. Sometimes it's simply nap time, and there is nothing anyone in the room can do about that, because your child doesn't know why they're crying either.
A child who is exhausted cannot always be reasoned with. That doesn't mean you failed. It means your child is a child.
I promise you: the care team has seen it all before, and no one is judging you. A crying two-year-old is a completely normal part of our day.
Sometimes the goal is smaller than a perfect visit
Some days the goal is simply to get through the visit with as much kindness as possible.
Hold them. Speak gently. Let the care team help.
And after it's done, remind them: "You tried so hard."
Because they did.
And so did you.
